WE BOTH HAD GREAT JOBS AND PURCHASED A SMALL CONDO IN A LARGE RESIDENTIAL COMPLEX. WHEN THE MARKET STARTED TO DIMINISH, THE BUILDER (WHO WE PURCHASED THE CONDO THROUGH) CUT THE ASKING PRICE OF THESE UNITS IN HALF SO ONE DAY OUR CONDO WAS WORTH $450,000 AND LITERALLY THE NEXT DAY OUR CONDO WAS WORTH $250,000. IN ADDITION TO THE HOUSING MARKET TANKING, WE BOTH LOST OUR JOBS WITHIN ONE WEEK OF EACH OTHER. WE DID FIND WORK FOR FOR A LOT LESS - WE CALLED OUR LENDER RIGHT AWAY TO SEEK ASSISTANCE, AND THEY TOLD US TO SUBMIT PROOF OF JOB LOSS AND THEN TRY TO SHORT SALE THE CONDO. WE DID ALL OF THIS WITHIN ONE MONTH - THE SHORT SALE WAS ON HOLD FOR OVER A YEAR. IT FINALLY DID SETTLE ABOUT A YEAR LATER. WE RECEIVED NOTICE FROM AN ATTORNEY THAT OUR CASE WAS GOING TO TRIAL AND WITHIN A YEAR WE RECEIVED $1000 IN THIS SETTLEMENT. IT WAS FOUND THAT COUNTRYWIDE WAS IN ERROR (DELAY IN APPROVAL) AND THEY KEPT ASKING FOR THE SAME PAPER WORK OVER AND OVER.
