A LARGE CONTRACT WITH A MUSIC CONSERVATORY WAS NOT RENEWED IN JULY 2008 AND MY HUSBAND BEGAN PRIVATE MUSIC INSTRUCTION IN A LOCAL MUSIC STORE IN ATTEMPTS TO COVER LOSSES OF PREVIOUS CONTRACT. MEANWHILE, THE HOUSING MARKET TOOK A DRASTIC TURN AND OUR HOME LOST OVER $200K IN VALUE. IN 2009 THE CALIFORNIA STATE BUDGET CRISIS WAS UNDERGOING MANDATED FURLOUGHS AND SEVERE LABOR CUTS. UNFORTUNATELY, IN APRIL 2010, MY EMPLOYMENT WAS ELIMINATED. I BEGAN THE DIFFICULT PROCESS OF SEARCHING FOR ANOTHER JOB. I CONTACTED M SQUARED CONSULTING FIRM IN SAN FRANCISCO AND REGISTERED AS A CONSULTANT WITH THE OPPORTUNITY TO BID ON PROJECTS. HOWEVER, THE LOSS OF MY INCOME SEVERELY AFFECTED OUR BUDGET AND WE WERE UNABLE TO MEET ALL OF OUR OBLIGATIONS. WE BEGAN RECEIVING COURT SUMMONS FROM CREDIT CARD COMPANIES THAT HAD HIKED OUR BORROWING PERCENTAGES TO OUTRAGEOUS PERCENTAGES AND ADDITIONAL FEES. THEREFORE, IN OCTOBER 2010 WE CONTACTED AN ATTORNEY AND FILED A CHAPTER 7 BANKRUPTCY PETITION. ON JANUARY 31, 2011 OUR BANKRUPTCY WAS DISCHARGED.
